Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker, also referred to as Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, is an American film of 2019 directed by J.J. Abrams and script co-written by Chris Terrio and Abrams. It comes at number three in the Star Wars Sequel trilogy’s film. Produced by Kathleen Kennedy, LucasFilm president, the film is a sequel to 2015’s The Force Awakens, which was also directed, co-written by Abrams and The Last Jedi 2017. LucasFilm has considered this as the Skywalker saga’s last installment.
Skywalker features Billy Dee Williams, Ian McDiarmid, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Keri Russell, Lupita Nyong’o, Richard E. Grant, Doomhnall Gleeson, Naomi Ackie, Anthony Daniels, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher.
Fisher died in 2016, just before the production of the film. Therefore he appeared through footage from The Awakens that had not been used. The film’s announcement followed The Disney Walt Company acquisition of LucasFilm Ltd.
Leading photography commenced in 2018 through to 2019. On April 12, 2019, the film’s footage was unveiled to the public. On December 20, 2019, the film was released. The film garnered three nominations during the 92nd Academy Awards: Best Sounding Editing, Best Visual Effects, and Best Original Score. The Rise of Skywalker has grossed more than $1billion globally, becoming the forty-sixth highest-grossing film of all time. It is among the most expensive movies ever produced, with a budget of about $275 million.
